Your Questions About Selling a Junk Car

Short answers to what sellers in Gary and the towns around it ask before they sell: how offers and payment work, what happens at pickup, and how Indiana titles and plates fit in. The tow is free, and payment comes at pickup.

Offers and payment

How do I get an offer for my junk car?

Fill in the two-step form with the year, make, model and title status, and after that your name, number and the car's location. Our call back brings the offer.

What changes the offer?

The year, make and model, whether you have the title, and the car's condition: whether it runs, what's damaged, and whether parts are missing. Describe it honestly and the offer is built on what you tell us.

When and how am I paid?

At pickup, while the car is being collected, by Zelle, Cash App or another payment app, or in cash if you'd rather.

Does the offer expire?

No. An offer from us has no time limit, so there's no rush to decide.

What kinds of vehicles do you buy?

Any vehicle in any condition: cars, trucks, vans and SUVs, whether they run or not, and whether they're wrecked, burned, flooded, stripped or rusted out.

Can you take more than one car?

Yes. One visit can clear several vehicles; list them all when we call.

Pickup and towing

Is towing free?

Yes. Towing is free and no towing charge comes out of your offer.

My car sits at a mechanic's or in my building's lot. Is that okay?

Yes. A garage bay, an apartment lot or an HOA lot all work for us. Clear it with the shop or the lot manager so the truck gets in.

What hours do you work?

Mornings from 6 until 9 at night, every day of the week, on Central Time.

How soon can you pick up?

Same-day pickup is often possible. We set a time on the call once you accept the offer, and it's best treated as a window rather than an exact minute.

Does the car have to run or roll?

No. Tell us whether it rolls, whether it's stuck in park and where it's parked, so the driver brings the right equipment.

What should I do before the truck comes?

Take out your belongings, remove the license plate, have the title or the paper we agreed on the call ready, and clear a path to the car.

Titles and plates in Indiana

Can I sell a junk car without a title?

We can still help. In Indiana a junk car sale runs on one of two papers: the title (lost it? the BMV issues a duplicate for $15) or a BMV certificate of authority, which costs $4 and is applied for with something showing the car is yours, like your current registration. If the car is under 15 model years old, state law requires one of the two. Let us know what you do have, such as a bill of sale, a registration or an insurance card, and on the call we'll work out which route fits your car.

The registration expired. Is that a problem?

No. Ownership moves with the title, not the registration. Indiana's BMV asks the seller to remove the plate at the sale and puts new title, registration and plate on the buyer.

What do I do with my old plate?

Indiana's BMV doesn't require you to turn it in. You can move it to another vehicle you own or destroy it so it's permanently unreadable.

The car belonged to someone who died. Can I sell it?

Yes, once the title is in the right name. A transfer-on-death beneficiary or State Form 18733 are the usual routes in Indiana; our inherited car guide walks through both.

My title is from Illinois. Can I still sell in Indiana?

Yes. Sign the title following the instructions printed on it. Indiana's VIN inspection and title steps fall on whoever titles the car here next.
